If you lost your mobile or it is stolen, you probably won't get your phone back, but if you follow the below method atleast you know that whoever stole you mobile he can't use it either sell it.
Whenever you buy a new mobile handset, check your mobile phone's serial number, key in the following digits on your phone :

A 15 digit code will be appear on the screen. This number is unique to your mobile handset. Write it down and keep it somewhere safe.
In case if you lost your mobile or it is stolen, you can call your service provider and give them this code. They will then be able to block yout handset so even if the person who got your mobile try to change the SIM card, your phone will be totally useless.
